Did you know that J N Hummel had arranged all of Beethoven’s symphonies for flute, violin, cello, and piano? Yeah, neither did we. We would have loved to just play them, but that would just not be like us. So instead we have asked a bunch of composers and sound artists to write pieces for us based on these transcriptions, using the original notes but turning them into something else. We didn’t ask just anyone, either: so far we have Bernhard Lang, Hanna Hartman, Mattias Petersson, Paula Matthusen, Kaffe Matthews, and Matthew Shlomowitz on board, and we plan on performing these pieces over the next couple of years. By 2020 we plan on having our own personal Beethoven cycle of all nine symphonies, using electronics, video, and plain old chamber music to create a portal through which we can imagine Ludwig if he were alive today.
